I’ve been running into a bit of a frustrating issue with my local Weaviate setup (v1.27.x) and I’m hoping someone here has navigated something similar. I’m currently building a small monitoring tool that vectorizes the execution logic of various game automation scripts to identify which ones are most efficient at bypassing specific server-side checks.
The main problem I’m facing is a recurring DEADLINE_EXCEEDED error during batch imports. It seems like when I try to push updates for more complex blox fruit scripts that have long, nested logic chains, the vectorizer struggles to keep up with the frequency of the data coming in. I’m using the text2vec-openai module, but I suspect the bottleneck might actually be in my HNSW index configuration rather than the API itself.
Has anyone else noticed significant latency or gRPC timeouts when their data objects contain high-frequency logic changes? I’m also worried about “vector drift”—because these scripts are constantly being updated to bypass new patches, the semantic meaning of the “efficient path” changes almost weekly. Should I be using a shorter vectorCacheMaxObjects to force more frequent re-indexing, or is there a better way to handle this kind of volatile data without crashing the node? I’d really appreciate any advice on how to tune my docker-compose environment variables to make the ingestion more resilient for this type of real-time script analysis.

I believe you’re dealing with two different issues here. Let me break it down:
The DEADLINE_EXCEEDED error basically means your client is timing out before Weaviate finishes processing your batches. The server is just taking longer to process than your client is configured to wait. With complex nested logic chains and text2vec-openai calls, this processing time can easily go over the default timeout limits. Your current timeout settings are probably too low. Here’s what I’d suggest:
Update your timeout settings to be more generous
Use a smaller, fixed batch size
Add ASYNC_INDEXING: "true" - this will really help you out even with updates
Also, you’re on a pretty old version. I’d strongly recommend upgrading to the latest version of Weaviate (we’re at 1.36 now). There are tons of performance improvements and changes that will make a huge difference, especially with indexing.
One more thing, check if your Weaviate node is hitting CPU, RAM, or disk limits during imports. If resources are getting pressure, that’ll definitely slow things down.
Quick note on vectorCacheMaxObjects, lowering this won’t help here. This parameter only controls memory vs disk usage, it doesn’t force re-indexing. When you update objects with new vectors (like when scripts change), the HNSW index updates automatically. Keep vectorCacheMaxObjects high during imports for the best performance.
