How are small businesses using AI search to improve customer self-service?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading about semantic search, hybrid search, and retrieval systems, and I’m curious about their practical use outside large enterprise applications.
One area I find interesting is small business websites. Many local businesses now have dozens of service pages, FAQs, pricing information, and educational resources. Traditional keyword search often misses the intent behind a customer’s question, while AI-powered search seems much better at understanding natural language.
For example, someone might search:
“How much does junk removal cost?”
“Can I recycle old electronics?”
“Where should I dispose of a mattress?”
“What items are accepted for pickup?”
Even though the exact wording may not exist on the website, a semantic search system could still surface the most relevant content.
I’m interested in learning how others are implementing this for knowledge bases, documentation, FAQ systems, or local business websites.
A few questions:
Are you using semantic search alone, or combining it with hybrid search?
How do you improve relevance when users ask broad or conversational questions?
Have you seen better engagement after replacing basic keyword search with AI-powered search?
I’d love to hear about real-world experiences and best practices.
Thanks!
