Understanding AI Units (AIUs) in Weaviate Enterprise Cloud Pricing

Hello Weaviate team,

I’m evaluating Weaviate Enterprise Cloud for our organization and I’m trying to understand the AI Unit (AIU) pricing model. I see that Enterprise Cloud is priced at “$2.64/AIU” but I need more clarity on what exactly an AIU represents.

Specifically, I’d appreciate information on:

  1. What exactly constitutes one AI Unit (AIU)? Is it a measure of compute, storage, or a combination?

  2. How are AIUs calculated across different storage tiers (hot, warm, and cold)? Do different tiers consume AIUs at different rates?

  3. How do vector compression techniques (PQ, SQ, BQ) affect AIU consumption?

  4. For multi-tenant implementations with tenant offloading, how does moving tenants between storage tiers affect AIU billing?

  5. Are there any examples or case studies showing typical AIU consumption for different workloads?

  6. Is there a way to estimate or predict AIU usage based on our expected data volume and query patterns?

I understand that AIUs were introduced to help with usage monitoring and budgeting, but I need more specific details to properly evaluate costs for our use case.

Thank you for your help!
